The Bay Area Woodworkers Association met at the Foster City Library on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
The meeting was called to order by Paul Krenitsky, BAWA president, who began with announcements and highlighted upcoming events. Thanks to the efforts of Max Goldstein, our meeting coordinator, the gathering featured a range of presentations from members, describing their latest projects and techniques.

Eric Edwards presented his unique flower pot holder design and construction, showing a piece built from Poplar. Notably, his finishing technique elevated the appearance of the wood, creating a high-contrast distinction between the heartwood and sapwood. For more information on this project, visit Eric’s website at https://ericed.com.

Laura Marshal presented two projects: a custom-built LED lamp and an adorable puppy-themed toilet paper holder. The latter featured a 3D-printed dog nose crafted in collaboration with her husband.
It was a great example of how woodworking and technology can come together to create something truly special.

Laura Rhodes built an Inkle loom (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band_weaving) and demonstrated how it works. She turned the pegs on a lathe using a skew chisel to achieve the best surface finish. Laura started weaving a colorful band with an intricate pattern.
She also recommended the book Illustrated Guide to Shaker Furniture by Robert F. W. Meader.

Max Goldstein presented slides on how he built a cherry box with grain perfectly wrapped around the sides 360 degrees. Max described his techniques of using different woodworking tools to achieve high precision and smooth finish. He also described design considerations, such as the placement of spline joints and repeating elements, such as curves, wood accents, matching hardware, etc.

Jes showed a vintage Zyliss Profi-King portable clamping device with multiple attachments. This lightweight clamping system proved indispensable as it allows the clamping of wood and tools in many different ways and tight spots.
This clamping device was initially developed in the middle of the 20th century for the Swiss Army and later sold as a hobbyist vise.

Lloyd Worthington-Levy made a box from Koa wood, a dense and precious wood from Hawaii. He inlaid the box with Hibiscus flowers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibiscus. Lloyd also showed his 3D-printed jig, which allows setting up a table saw to build wooden boxes with highly precise joinery.

Thanks to Laura Rhodes, our Zoom coordinator, for handling slide presentations and the video call. Thanks to Paul Krenitsky for arranging snacks that people enjoyed during a break. Thanks to Burt Rosensweig for taking the meeting notes. Photos of the meeting were taken by Roman Chernikov. Thanks to the Foster City Library for hosting BAWA meetings.
The Bay Area Woodworkers Association looks forward to its next meeting, where members will continue to share their passion for woodworking and inspire each other with new projects and ideas.
